INDIAN hockey Players Ignored.

Posted In: . By Mr. Jaitly Rajat

Irked by the step-motherly treatment meted out to the Indian hockey players by the central and four state governments, when compared to the sops given to cricketers after their win in the Twenty20 World Cup (in Image), the team members have decided to go on a 'hunger strike'.

Speaking to reporters, National Chief Coach, Joaquim Carvalho strongly objected to the announcement of cash awards by the Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel and the state governments of Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Karnataka to the cricketers while ignoring the victory of his wards in the Asian Continental Championship early this month.

"Why our hockey players are orphaned and why our politicians are biased towards Hockey, the national game?", Carvalho asked.

However, "we are grateful ever to the President of India for her sending individual letters congratulating the hockey players for their Asia cup win, without losing a match".

He declared that one coach and four players have planned to go on hunger strike before the Karnataka Chief Minister's house for his announcing Rs five lakh each to the members of the cricket team, while "treating the state hockey players like dust".

Carvalho said "Karnataka CM has not till date congratulated his state hockey players for the Asia Cup win".

"Coach, Ramesh Parameswaran, manager R K Shetty and four players (Vikram Kanth, V R Rahunath, S V Sunil and Ignace Tirkey, who was recently adjudged for the Ekalaywa Award by the Karnataka Government) are to go on hunger strike before the Karnataka Chief Minister's house', he said.

Rs 4500 for PC, that cheap!!

Posted In: , . By Mr. Jaitly Rajat

"A PC for every home" may not be such a distant possibility after all -- especially if you happen to be a MTNL customer!

The state-owned telecom major, in association with Chennai-based Novatium, is today launching its Rs 4,500 PC, which comes with the added benefit of an Internet connection for just a small monthly fee.

The computer, christened 'netPC', will be launched today in the capital by Communication and IT minister, A Raja.

While 'netPC' looks and feels like any other PC, it's essentially a no-frills device. Which means it lacks most of the common hardware found on a typical PC. It does not have a regular CPU or any storage device.

MTNL will connect the terminals to a centralised server in the locality, and will provide the PC with Internet access. All applications including consumers' data storage will be done by the server.

According to Novatium, the advantage of 'netPC' is that customers will not have to face the challenges that are associated with a regular PC.
Besides, they will retain the choice to use either Windows or Linux operating systems.

The Novatium Web site explains the concept of 'netPC' as: "netPC reaches one's home on a network cable just like a cable television service or Broadband. Metro ethernet deployments are quickly becoming a pervasive reality, and hence, instead of just Internet Broadband to one's home, one can ask for a complete desktop with inbuilt Internet access, educational packages, online games, chat, Web cam, productivity suites, and much more served on the Nova netPC."

Citizen Portal for Mumbai

Posted In: , . By Mr. Jaitly Rajat

In these times of frequent comparisons between aamchee Mumbai and Shanghai and every other global city, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), which enjoys the distinction of being the largest municipal corporation in the country, has launched its citizen portal dedicated to the citizens of Mumbai (www.mcgm.gov.in).

In what could prove a laudable effort at e-governance -- if only it is honestly implemented -- the portal aims at transforming the way in which our city lives and breathes... It claims that it will ensure 'freedom from queues' to Mumbaikars.

Enabled by solutions, consulting, and services by SAP AG, Siemens Information Systems, and ABM, the citizen portal is designed to address the needs of employees, corporates, and administrators through online availability of services backed-up by necessary infrastructure.

Some of the services offered by the portal include: birth and death certification, health care, MPFA licenses, trade licenses, hoarding licenses, advertisement licenses, complaints registration, nursing home and sonography, water works, etc.

ISRO WORKING

Posted In: . By Mr. Jaitly Rajat

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is working on a new device to drastically reduce the cost of satellite phone usage and enable access to remote areas of the country, a top space agency official said here Monday.

"We are finalizing the design of GSAT-6 experimental satellite that will carry the device to connect mobile handsets through a satellite link. It will make access cheaper with connectivity even in remote areas," ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair told IANS at the first plenary session of the International Aeronautical Congress (IAC 2007) on the inaugural day.

Referring to the exponential growth of mobile subscriber base in the sub-continent after the advent of the cellular technology in the GSM and CDMA space, Nair said a similar revolution would take place when satellite phones become affordable by better and efficient use of space technology and applications.

"We hope to launch GSAT-6 in the next three years with the special device in the transponders for providing direct access to mobile phones on the lines of direct-to-home (DTH) satellite link used for television broadcasting," Nair pointed out.

The GSAT-6 will be launched by the indigenous GSLV (geo-synchronous satellite launch vehicle) and deployed in the geo-stationary orbit at 36,000km from earth by 2010.

"A subscriber will be able to connect his or her GSM phone when signals from the mobile service provider fail or do not reach by automatically switching over to the satellite link," ISRO scientific secretary Bhaskara Narayana said.

"We are also designing a larger solar antenna for the satellite, which will be five times bigger than the present 2.2-metre antenna used in the communication satellites for news gathering and television broadcasting," he added.

The larger antenna will be deployed as an umbrella in space.

It may be recalled Iridium LLC, a satellite phone service provider, shut shop after it went bankrupt in 2000 due to heavy losses and dwindling subscriber base owing to steep access costs.

Abu Dhabi-based Thuraya Satellite Communications is the only operator providing both satellite-based and GSM-based services to millions of users in about 110 countries from two commercial satellites.

Celebrations after INDIA won the T-20 Worldcup.

Video is from PUNE, INDIA.

A worth watching Video, Yuvraj hits 6 Sixes in an over against England in T20 world cup, as goes on to make fastest 50 in just 12 balls.

Former Union law minister Ram Jethmalani spoke strongly in support of the Indo-US nuclear deal while observing here on Monday that the deal was crucial to India’s economic progress. “India badly needs nuclear fuel,” he said.
Jethmalani was speaking on the ‘Indo-US Nuke deal’ at the first of the public lecture series launched by the Symbiosis International University (SIU). The function, held at Symbiosis Vishwabhavan, was presided over by SIU founder head S.B. Mujumdar.
Jethmalani singled out the CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat-led Left parties for criticism over their opposition to the Nuke deal. The opposition was based on presentation of wrong version of the deal and misrepresentation of contents from the agreement, he said.
“I would not accuse (Left parties) of lack of integrity but such misrepresentation smacks of total ignorance,” he added. “Worldover, the Communists have failed and have succeeded only in creating and distributing poverty,” he observed.
Jethmalani went on to comment that nothing as beneficial as the Nuke deal had happened to India in the last 60 years and this was primarily due to factors like the US democracy’s growing realisation that friendship with India was worthwhile.
Tracing the background, he observed that both India and US were pushed into the wrong blocks with the former getting identified with the Soviet block and the US getting obsessed with building sites of inspections, defence and aggression around the Communist regimes to ensure that the latter do not turn aggressors.
The situation had, nevertheless, changed and much credit for the Nuke deal should go to prime minister Manmohan Singh, said Jethmalani while describing the PM as an ‘unassuming man of great integrity.’

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is going to get Rs 35 million to fight cyber-related crimes, Minister of Communications and Information Technology A. Raja said at the closing ceremony of the seventh Interpol cyber crime conference.

"We will provide Rs 3.5 crore (Rs 35 million) to the CBI for developing advanced software and procuring latest software and tools to fight cyber crimes more efficiently," Raja said here.

"Information and communication technology, which is the foundation stone of the cyber world, is likely to come under serious onslaught of cyber crimes. If left unchecked, cyber crimes are likely to pose a significant threat to national security," Raja added.

The minister informed that the department of information and technology has established a resource center for cyber forensics in Thiruvananthapuram, which is tasked with development of cyber forensic tools and training of law enforcement personnel in investigation of cyber crimes and use of these tools.

He also stressed on the arrangements for speedy trans-border cooperation, public-private partnership and bridging the skills and resource gap that exists between cyber criminals and law enforcement agencies through quality training and upgrading of resources.

The three-day conference, which began Wednesday, was attended by representatives from 37 countries, EUROPOL, UNODC, UNICR, Council of Europe, multinational IT firms, Indian state-run firms and the department of electronics.

Over 40 senior police officers from 20 Indian states participated in the conference.

Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, Chairperson of IOA (Indian Olympic association) announced today that first ever race in INDIA of F1 will take place in 2010, and the location has yet to be finalized.

However, the two locations which are under consideration are Grater Noida and Sohna, which are located in Delhi. IOA president Suresh Kalmadi said the agreement was preliminary and conditional on having a venue approved.

According to report on BBC,

Should the Indian GP organisers meet the demands of Formula One Management (FOM), the race would become the fifth new venue to be added to the calendar in recent months.

Want to impress girls ??

Posted In: , . By Mr. Jaitly Rajat

Well I came across an article in my daily news papers, and though why not share with you guys, who are trying too hard to impress girls but fail miserably.

What would your life be like if you knew — beyond a shadow of a doubt — how to make any woman feel a deep, gut-level attraction for you? Pretty awesome, no? But, most guys are completely clueless in this area. They think the answer lies in ‘pickup lines’ and pheromones. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you want to learn how to turn a woman on, you need to learn what it takes to spark attraction. Here’s what will get you started.

Become the top gun:

There are many logical reasons why women are attracted to men with high status. But, the fact is that it’s true and it’s not going to change anytime soon. If a woman perceives you as holding a higher status than her, you instantly qualify for the ‘I’ll consider it’ type in her mind. If a woman perceives you as holding a lower status than her, she will instantly and unconsciously put you in the ‘Not a chance’ mental category. And, if you communicate your status in just the right way, you can trigger a powerful and instantaneous attraction in a woman that will be impossible for her to ignore. She’ll feel it. Luckily, this is something any guy can do quite easily.

Communicate high status properly:
The great news is that you can communicate high status even if you’re not good looking, rich or famous. The first thing you need to do is stop communicating lower status. Men typically communicate lower status by justifying, defending or explaining themselves. By seeking approval and by allowing things to affect them emotionally these men are portraying themselves as weak and in the lower status department. Stop doing these things immediately. Resist the temptation to explain yourself, be the centre of your own universe and keep your cool. If you do, you’ll make huge headway in becoming the high status guy that women can’t get enough of.
The ultimate mistake you can make when it comes to status — and the one guys make over and over again — is trying to trade your status for her approval. That’s called becoming a wussy, just to get a woman to like you. This will almost guarantee that she will never feel a gut level attraction for you. It’s so obvious and so pervasive that it’s almost invisible. This is the ultimate mistake men make with women. Whatever you do, never communicate lower status to try to get a woman to like you. It never works.

Let her chase you:
When most guys meet an attractive woman, they think about things completely backward. They usually decide quickly that she is what they want, so they pursue her forcefully which causes her to run away. Bad news. Instead, try flipping this whole scenario on its head. The next time you meet a woman you’re attracted to, instead of deciding she is what you want, take the perspective that you are the kind of guy she wants. Then, when she starts to pursue you, run away. It’ll make her want you that much more. When you realise the
steps that women use to attract guys, you can use these same steps to attract them. Nice.

Stop devaluing yourself:
Humans have a hardwired system for assigning values in our heads. If something is easy to get, we don’t think it has much value, but when it’s hard to get, we naturally assume it must be very valuable. If you want to drop your value to zero instantly in a woman’s eyes, all you have to do is make yourself easy to get a hold of — be readily available and obviously very interested. On the other hand, if you want to increase your value in a big way, you need to do the opposite. Make yourself busy so you’re difficult to get a hold of, and when you do talk to a woman, make sure you get off the phone and go do something interesting, and make sure you tell her about the activity right before you say, ‘Gotta go, bye!’ Make sure you have all kinds of other options going on in your life so you can’t become too available.

Tell her she’d make an interesting friend:
If a woman uses the phrase, ‘He’s just a friend,’ what she typically means is that the guy is interested in her but doesn’t have a chance in hell of having a romantic relationship with her. So, turn the tables. If you are talking to a woman and you can tell she’s starting to feel for you, say to her: ‘You know, I think you’re
going to make an interesting friend.’ Women rarely — if ever — hear this from a man. It will set you up as a challenge in her mind and cause her to be more likely to want to be with you in a romantic way.

Become friends with attractive women:

If you’re going out to meet women, make friends, actual friends, with several attractive women. It is one of the best strategies for consistently meeting women without having to deal with any kind of anxiety over approaching women. And, when it is suggested that you make friends with these women, then actually make friends. It’s fine to flirt, tease and have fun with them, but they are going to be your friends, so it’s best not to have feelings for them. Keep these friendships intact, and they’ll introduce you to tonnes of available women. They’ll literally bring them to you.

Learn to tell if a woman is single quickly:
Ever wonder if an attractive woman is single? If you develop the ability to be good at ‘reading’ whether a woman is single or not, you’ll be able to behave with her right from the start in a confident, knowing way. And, you’ll also stop taking it personally and getting hung up on women who seem cold to you because you’ll know why they
seem occupied. To figure out if a woman is available or not start teasing her, if she continues to spar with you as you impress her, it’s usually a big signal that she’s available and open to you. Practice guessing if a woman is single or not, until you can tell quickly and accurately. When you do, it will blow her mind that you knew her relationship status without her saying a word about it. She’ll see you as an insightful, intuitive guy — precisely the kind of guy she’s attracted to.

Create abundant choices for yourself:
When you make a decision there’s a big difference between deciding whether or not to take the one option available, and trying to choose between an abundance of options. Most guys have the mindset, “It’s either her, or nothing.” Most women have the mindset, “I can have any guy I want, so which one do I like best?” Take a moment and think about the subtle differences in your thinking, communicating and acting when you have many choices and you need to conserve your time, as opposed to having just one choice and having to figure out how to get it. Learn to think and behave as if you have all the choices in the world, then work on making that a reality by continually educating yourself on how to succeed with women and dating.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited recently announced its plans to expand its Indian operations to export cars to Europe by 2009.

Israel on Monday welcomed India's contribution in pushing forward the Middle East peace process, saying that its voice "carries weight" in the international community.

"India's voice carries weight in the international community. It is an important country and Israel attaches a lot of significance to its relations with India," Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni told New Delhi's special envoy to West Asia, Chinmaya Gharekhan, during a meeting here.

"We welcome India's contribution in pushing forward the peace process," Livni, also the Deputy Prime Minister, added.

The Israeli Foreign Minister briefed the special envoy on the recent contacts between Israeli and Palestinian leadership, expressing cautious optimism on the success of a US-initiated peace conference in November.

"India extends full support and cooperation in moving forward the peace process," Gharekhan said.

Livni also briefed Gharekhan on her two meetings with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

Gharekhan will be meeting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Fayyad on Tuesday in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

The special envoy held talks with Jordanian foreign minister Abdelelah al-Khatib in Amman before arriving here.

He will be meeting several senior leaders in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, including Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, during his eight-day trip to West Asia to extend India's support to the peace process.

Fearless !!

Gaurishankar Rajak is a poor, "untouchable" washerman, who barely went to school, but the sixty-something Dalit from Dumka in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand has published a newspaper every week without fail for the past 21 years, highlighting discrimination against the poor and local corruption.

Mr Rajak's four-page, handwritten Hindi-news Din Dalit is photocopied 100 times and sold to subscribers or pasted onto Dumka's main traffic lights, bus stands and roads. Din Dalit is not just another small town news sheet - the newspaper is registered with India's Registrar of Newspapers, thanks to the efforts of India's first Dalit President, KR Narayanan, after Mr Rajak wrote to him.

Since its first edition in October 1986, Din Dalit has made a difference to the lives of local people, even helping a resident to secure social security from the authorities after his plight was reported in the paper. Mr Rajak says he decided to bring out the newspaper after he was humiliated by local authorities when he took some people to meet them to help enlist them in a government social security scheme.

"I was very hurt. I approached the local media to highlight the incident but they did not show any interest. So I decided to go ahead and bring out my own newspaper," he says.

Over the years, Din Dalit has run stories on diverse subjects like a local scam in the distribution of specially-made cycles for disabled people, and bungling in a government housing scheme and kerosene oil distribution for the poor.

After washing clothes through the week for a living, Mr Rajak concentrates on bringing out the paper by selecting the news, deciding on the editorial page content and headlining the articles on Sundays. The paper now even boasts a reporter - 45-year-old Ravi Shanker Gupta, who works in a grocery and goes out to collect news when he gets a work break.

On Monday morning, the editor and his intrepid reporter publish 100 copies of Din Dalit - 50 are bought by regular readers, and some are pasted on the walls. Some 25 copies go to government departments. Mr Rajak says he spends 300 to 350 rupees (about $8) producing the paper. His wife is less than impressed with his efforts. "He just wastes his time and money every week. I have no idea what he gets by bringing out the paper," says Lakshmi Devi.

But others in Dumka think highly of Mr Rajak's paper.

Ashok Khatri, a disabled man, says he received a 2,000 rupee social security grant from the government, only after Din Dalit wrote about him.

Rickshaw puller Dhrub Rai says Din Dalit serves a critical social purpose. "Rajak has simply waged a war against corruption and social evils here," he says.

Mr Rajak's four sons also support their father's unstinting efforts. "We feel proud when we see people reading and discussing the issues raised in the paper," says eldest son, Raj Shanker Rajak.

And local English-language journalist Brajesh Verma concedes that Din Dalit serves an important purpose. "It has its own dedicated readership who wait for it every week," he says.

Din Dalit has also begun commenting on larger national issues. A recent piece by Mr Rajak stressed the need to turn the Line of Control - the de facto border separating the disputed region of Kashmir - into a "line of peace".

He has also written a drama on the Kashmir problem and sent it to a state-run television channel to make a serial out of it. He is still waiting for a response.

Mr Rajak's achievement is considerable when you consider the fact that India's 180 million Dalits still remain largely neglected by the authorities. Officially, caste discrimination was outlawed when India gained independence in 1947, but Dalits are still often expected to do the most menial jobs. In many villages, they are also prevented from drinking water from wells used by high-caste Hindus.

Time to get Trained in INDIA

No cap on Mobile service providers

Posted In: . By Mr. Jaitly Rajat

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its recommendations on reforms in telecom licensing policy and said there should be no cap on the number of access provider in any circle.

On mergers and acquisitions, the regulator said the market share of the merged entity should not exceed 40 per cent either in terms of subscriber based or revenue. At present, this cap is at 67 per cent.

TRAI also raised the cap on equity capital from 10 per cent to 20 per cent up to which a telcom player can acquire stake in another telco in the same service area.

On the issue of access providers using a combination of CDMA and GSM technology, the regulator said the existing license should be permitted to be used to provide services through either of the technology, subject to certain conditions.

TRAI has not changed the roll out obligation for the access providers.

The recommendations are subject to approval from Department of Telecom before being formed into law.

Upgrade in Delhi Police

Posted In: . By Mr. Jaitly Rajat

Delhi Cops are all packed  and ready to upgrade their defence system to fight the new territory which is expanding at a fast pace. Cyber Crimes are up and are haunting people, take not of the previous incidence of death of a young boy in Mumbai, now cops are upgrading its Cyber Cell to tackle the "crimes of the future".

The capital's police has decided to hold regular interactions with IT majors to upgrade its personnel's technical know-how in a bid to keep pace with the rapid technological advancement and the fast changing cyber crime scene.

"The fast changing technical environment throws up new challenges. Technical innovation leads to new modes of crime and we have to keep pace with technology to tackle it," city Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal said.

He said the force will hold interactions with IT companies to help increase the efficiency of the police personnel dealing with cases of cyber crime. Noting that instances of cyber crimes are increasing across the country, he said, Delhi Police is fully geared up to meet the challenge.

"The figures are increasing. We have a number of IT experts and qualified engineers. We are confident of catching cyber criminals," he said.

The Cyber Cell, which functions under Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing, registered 17 cases last year related to hacking, obscenity, e-commerce fraud and Internet related copyright violations.

In 2005, the figure was 12, while the cell has registered six cyber crime cases this year. The cell had received 58 complaints in 2005 and 206 in 2006, but many of these cases did not come under the ambit of cyber crime laws. This year, the cell has received 35 complaints so far.

This year the cases include one where an airhostess complained that she had been profiled in the social networking site 'Orkut' as a "sex struck woman".

In another incident, some people created a page of a research scholar in Jawaharlal Nehru University linking him with women in the campus.

The recent case of misuse of social networking sites was that of the abduction and murder of a Mumbai-based businessman's teenaged son. A "friend" left a message in his 'Orkut' page for a meeting at a shopping mall after which the boy, Adnan, was kidnapped and killed.

Not to be left behind in utilising advancements in IT, the police is also planning to connect its headquarters with offices of the Deputy Commissioners of Police in all the nine districts for effective communication between middle-level officers and top brass through the cyber highway.

"Talks are at an advanced stage with the service provider MTNL and we hope to get it done soon," Dadwal said. He said the police is visualising a scenario where they could keep a hawk eye on the capital.

"Once this materialises, our communication system will improve, which means that we get an upper hand. We could also regulate the traffic flow sitting in the control room by viewing the visuals from various parts of the city," he said.
